However, in the wake of social media, it feels like no stone has been left unturned, being showcased online and coined as a \u201chidden gem\u201d for either TikTok, Instagram or YouTube. Currently, more than 180,000 posts exist under the tag #HiddenGem on TikTok. <\/span><\/p>\n

Whilst the TikTok tag is helping to bring attention to some of the lesser-travelled destinations, it can often be hard for travellers to plan an entire trip around a single viral video. To help travellers make the jump from their phones to the real world, B\u00f3kun is sharing the best localised hidden gems worldwide based on real consumer reviews. <\/span><\/p>\n

The study analysed over 1,000 destinations on Tripadvisor, where consumers referred to a location as a \u2018hidden gem\u2019 to reveal what and where these secret travel gems are around the world. <\/span><\/p>\n

England revealed as the world’s biggest hidden gem hoarder<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

The public has spoken. According to travellers worldwide, <\/span> <\/span> England <\/span> is the country with the most hidden gems, <\/span> <\/span> claiming over <\/span> <\/span> 33% <\/span> of the world’s hidden wonders in the study. The <\/span> <\/span> United States <\/span> ranked second, occupying <\/span> <\/span> 31% <\/span> <\/span> of the world’s hidden gems, followed by <\/span> <\/span> Ireland <\/span> <\/span> (6%) <\/span> , Scotland <\/span> <\/span> (4%), <\/span> <\/span> Italy <\/span> (3%) <\/span> and <\/span> <\/span> Spain <\/span> <\/span> (2%).<\/span><\/p>\n

When analysing the data, it was also apparent that one type of location was coined a \u201chidden gem\u201d the most – <\/span> <\/span> gardens <\/span> . Worldwide, locations categorised as \u201cgardens\u201d made up 14% of the world’s hidden gem locations, followed by speciality museums (12%), historic sites (11%), history museums (7%) and architectural buildings (6%). <\/span><\/p>\n

Of all worldwide locations, <\/span> <\/span> Manchester\u2019s St Mary\u2019s Church <\/span> is crowned the world’s best hidden gem! In total, 49% of reviews remarked that this architectural building was a local wonder, making it the most notable hidden gem in the world.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Another notable location at the top of England’s hidden gems is the <\/span> <\/span> Time Trap Museum in <\/span> <\/span> Grimsby <\/span> ?! <\/span> While it may not be the white sand beach spot you might expect, the reviews speak for themselves, as 25% of the reviews coined it a local \u201chidden gem\u201d.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Across the pond in the <\/span> <\/span> United States, <\/span> the best-hidden gems were found to be the <\/span> <\/span> Peace River Botanical and Sculpture Gardens <\/span> <\/span> in <\/span> Punta Gorda, Florida, followed by the <\/span> <\/span> Franklin Auto Museum <\/span> <\/span> in Tucson, Arizona, a speciality museum referred to as a \u201chidden gem for car lovers.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Ireland <\/span> is known for its castles, so it’s only fitting that its top hidden gem is <\/span> <\/span> Drimnagh Castle <\/span> , which 19% of reviews called a hidden gem in Dublin. Followed by the stunning <\/span> <\/span> Kilfane Waterfall <\/span> and Glen in Thomastown.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Expanding beyond the English-speaking language, <\/span> <\/span> Spain’s <\/span> <\/span> biggest hidden gem was an ancient ruin in <\/span> Barcelona, <\/span> <\/span> the <\/span> MUHBA Temple d’August. <\/span> <\/span> Meanwhile, <\/span> Italy\u2019s <\/span> <\/span> standout hidden gem was <\/span> <\/span> Bagni Regina Giovanna <\/span> – a beach located in <\/span> <\/span> Sorrento <\/span> <\/span> and had reviews calling this hidden gem \u201ca piece of paradise on earth\u201d. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n

The Best Local Tours Uncovering Hidden Gems Worldwide <\/span><\/h3>\n

Localised tours, led by experts, offer a unique chance to explore a destination’s essence. With most tourists typically only visiting a destination once, making the most of the time away is crucial. Among the tours analysed through Tripadvisor, walking, sightseeing, distillery, railway, and wine tours were the tours some of the most commonly coined \u2018hidden gems\u2019.

Utilising Tripadvisor for our research, we analysed more than 1,000 destinations worldwide, filtering by the keyword \u2018Hidden Gem\u2019 to highlight the top locations where consumers felt they had uncovered a gem. <\/span><\/p>\n
